We recently installed a Nice logger and I had to reboot the server after adding in a 3rd card which gives us 72 channels. Now, the backup will not function. It comes back with an error stating "unable to append". Any ideas/suggestions on how to get the automatic archiving working again?

did you upgrade the logger s/w as well?

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

The logger was already configured for the 72 channels, I just wanted to reboot after connecting the cables. What does s/w stand for?

software. If the logger was configured for 72 but only has 48 it would generate alarms. Do you have 72 channels in the supervision app and if so are they recording. What version of s/w is it?

I believe the software level is 8.9. Everything is recording fine, its the automatic archiving that I'm having a problem with. The tape drive doesn't recognize a tape in the drive.

try ejecting the tape using administrator and then shutdown the logger using supervision or if you can shut it down directly on the logger (its the shutdown in the start menu) power off logger for 30 seconds and restart. Run a cleaning tape through the drive and put a new tape in.

Thanks for your help. It was the way I ejected the tape. It has to be done softly instead of the hard eject on the front of the unit. I unloaded the tape through the software, inserted a new tape and bam.....archiving again. Thanks again, very much appreciated.

never eject the tape using the button on the drive, the logger doesn't have a chance to update the index on the tape before it is ejected and when it is next inserted doesn't recognise it.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

if you need to retrieve a call from that tape in the future you will probably find that when you put the tape in it will say "recovering". Let it run it's course as it is rebuilding the index and can take up to an hour to do.
