first of all your in the wrong forum. use the symposium forum. second you have to use the server utility to do a backup.
There is too many type of backup. For database backup you can use CCMS backup utility. But before this you must prepare CCMS and remote computer.
Duration changes depends on your database size. For example Backing up 96 GB database takes more then 3 hours.
