Backup CCM 4.1 with Ghost or Acronis

I'm wondering if I can backup the disk of CCM in the IBM server with GHOST or Acronis (better).

Acronis can be a good solution if we have critical issues (i.e: hard disk damage) for a quick restore.

I don't see anyone doing this, I know cisco do not support ghost recoveries but in the field, I see some forums people talking about working well.

I need to hear some advice.

For a full disk 'backup' Ghost should work. For a true backup supported by Cisco, use BARS, Backup And Restore System. It's free from Cisco and works very well.

I do BARS backup every month but I want to be protected for a fast recovery in a case of hard disk damage. Are you restore a CCM from Ghost image? the server is simple, don't have a raid and the disk is IDE!!!

I've never done it but that is exactly how Cisco builds the OS on the older versions. It's a Ghost image that is used to build the server. The only question I'd have is if SQL will back up correctly with Ghost as so many files are open while it's running.

I'd try it and restore it to another similar server.

The Ghost backup or the Acronis backup is a full image of the hard drive, the SQL server and all the OS and ccm settings must be back it up without any issue because this is performed with the server down.

I don't see any reason why a Ghost or Acronis restore will not function on this case, this is only valid to understand if Cisco config in the ccm save some special information based on the serial number of the hard disk etc. If this don't happens, I don't see why a regular IMAGE of the HD cannot be restored.

I don't believe there is anything like that stored anywhere. I have taken a CCM 4.1 drive and moved it from server to server without issue. I have mirrored an existing drive to a spare drive then moved the spare drive. Nothing like that kicked in until CCM 5 when Cisco tied everything to the MAC address of the server. The license in CCM 4.1 was tied to the phones not the server.
