I backed up DB in micros 3700 5.1 by using DBM and backup created .mbz5.
Now when I try to restore by using DBM in new machine with fresh installed of 5.4 MR1, it is looking for .mbz5g2.
How do I restore micros 5.1 DB files to micros 5.4 MR1?
thanks

You have to do it through a command line:

DM -U "<full path and filename for 5.1 backup>

thank you so much!
When I backed up 5.1 by using DBM, it created following files:
1. micros.db
2. MICROSKeyBackup.mbz5
3. Folder name : Archive, Under Archive, file name: MICROS_2016_08_28_10_40.mbz5

which one I need to restore, please?
thanks

OK, here's what you have to do.

On your Res 5.4 server, set the system to Off in the Micros control panel.
Browse to \Micros\database\data
Delete Micros.db and Micros.log (if you get an error, you may have to stop the Sybase database service)
Open a command window and run this command:
DM -U "%RESDBDIR%\backup\archive\MICROS_2016_08_28_10_40.mbz5"

(I don't know what drive your database is on, so used the %RESDBDIR% variable instead of a drive letter/db path.)

It may look like nothing is happening, but you should see the Database Manager screen pop up after a few minutes. It will restore the backup, and automatically launch a database upgrade. This can take a while, depending on the databse and the server, so don't worry if it seems like it's frozen.

Thank you ever so much.
I followed your instructions which seem very clear.
DBM shows
1st line: "converting database: Z\Data\Backup\MICROS_2016_08_28_10_40.mbz5"
2nd line"File not found Check DM Log file for details.
Any ideas, please?
thanks again.

BTW: My New Database for 5.4 is in its default location: C:\micros\Database\data

Ok. Our vendor's default is D:\micros\database\data. It's just more flexible using the variables set up by the Micros installation.

Can you confirm that the backup you're restoring is C:\micros\database\data\backup\archive\MICROS_2016_08_28_10_40.mbz5?
I don't know where that Z is coming from.

Z is the second drive. But I can copy that /mbz5 file to C:\micros\dataabse\data\backup\archive\MICROS_2016_08_28_10_40.mbz5

it is working now.
thank you ever so much.
I will keep you posted.
thanks again

Pmegan,
I think it seems to be working fine. I can see the employees and others. will do more test.
Hopefully the Last question, How do I update the license information to this new server from the old server?
At this time I am using "demo" license/
thanks again.

Jackba,
You are awesome.
this will surely help.
again, thanks

I was able to restore the DB successfully without any error.
I also copied "scripts" and "reports" files from original micros server to this new server.
Configurator shows employees and all seem to be ok.
I just cannot start RES. It starts, get two green buttons first and third and then the window stays on which says "system closed"
any ideas, please?
thanks

Open the micros control panel, select "Restaurant", and click the Front of House button.

Thanks Guys.
That worked.
Thanks again

How do i transfer the license from original micros 5.1 to this new install 5.4 MR1?
thanks

Micros 5.4 mr1 should be keyless the last time I checked unless oracle changed it

go to micros application folder then utilities click on license manager and tick the license you want am not sure if its Mr1 or 2

You might need a patch for the licence if this does't work
