Backlight on Avaya 5621BL not turning off

I have a client with a 5621SW IP phone running VPN firmware and connected to an IP500 running 4.2.11.

I was advised by Catalyst that to have the backlight turn off, i should remove the "##" sign in 46xxsettings.txt that is before this setting, and it should work. I did this, changed it from the default (120 minutes) to 5 minutes, and rebooted the phone.

At this point, the backlight is still on.

am i missing anything??

This does not work on a vpn phone
This only work with the normal firmware from 4.2.11 and up

Is there a way to manually turn it off from the phone itself?

Try pushing "mute", then 633#
same as "mute" OFF#

This will turn off the backlight!

Also works on 4621 phones!
