Hi,
This may not belong here and if so I appologize. I've always found this forum (site in general) to be the most direct and helpful.

I'm looking for a way to back up new documents and files, or existing ones if they have changed, from only a few select folders.

My situation is this: I have a laptop, desktop and flash drive that I carry. I keep certain folder contents of the two PC's identical and would like the folder copies on the flash drive to be indentical, with any updates to files.

It is a pain in rear though, having to copy every file that I change or create on one machine to the other, and then having to make sure the flash drive is updated also.

Is there a better way or program perhaps that will do do this?

Take a look at Microsoft's own Briefcase application:
Microsoft said:
You can use Briefcase to keep files in sync between two different computers, even if the computers are not on the same network. If the computers are not on the same network, you can copy files from one computer to another by using removable media, work on those files using the other computer, and then use Briefcase to sync the changes back to the original computer.

Thanks for the suggestions. The SyncToy is exactly what I was looking for, since in my case I wanted to keep all files contained in identical folders updated and synced on two PC's and the removable media.

I checked out the Briefcase option also, but with Briefcase, Microsoft says,"You never sync files with the second computer using removable media. You simply gain the ability to work on those files on another computer and then sync those changes back to the original computer."

It's good to know about it though, so I appreciate the suggestion.

Thank you guys very much.

- You may like to try "SYNCLESS", it is tagging software allowing you to choose individual folders, or any variations, to back up to another computer or two. i.e. you can synchronise more than two computers, including memory sticks.

There are various options available e.g. Manual sync, 'Seamless' sync. and backing up a chosen number of deleted files. i.e. If you delete a file on one of the 2+ set locations, then it will deleted on the other two but first archiving for safety. (You choose how many archive copies you want to keep. (0+)

Detail here:

- and its free to use.

I tend to use it to synchronise 'identical' data partitions on two networked computers and a number of folders from one machine to its external USB hard drive.

I start Syncless manually, after my two networked computers are up and running, and all the seamless settings are immediately checked & synchronised, the only folders I manually synchronise are the Outlook Mail data files, but only when the OL is shut down.

It sits in background 'beavering' away while I produce and manipulate the data files. There is also a logging facility which allows you to confirm what is happening.

Hope this helps!
