We will be attaching our Netware boxes to our SAN, We want to be able to back them up with our existing Legato system. Does anyone know what kind of Licenses we need or if we can even do this?

Shouldn't be a problem. You'll still be backing the data up via Netware, so it's just another volume.

Correct, but you won't be utilising the SAN infrastructure.

Right now the only option is a traditional LAN backup and you'll need the Netware Client Pak license for this. Note Networker for Netware client / server software is still on 4.XX

In the (hopefully near) future when Networker for Novell reaches 6.X and then you can implement LAN Less Backups i.e. backups that run trough the SAN. But this requires buying a server license (i believe int his case still called storage node).

Hi All,

we have had a visit of one of the chief developers of
Legato in our company because we have the same issue, attaching Novell 5.x Servers to SAN.
He said that they won´t develop a SAN Storage Node for
Novell because there is no market for this product. The only thing they (maybe..) develop is NDMP Support for the Novell Client.

Regards

Till
