I am having just a bear of a time trying to back up our 4 Network Appliance filers with Legato Networker. Main errors right now seem to be:

* mmtoaster04:index save: RAP error: Unable to extract resource info for client <server>.
* mmtoaster04:index save: Cannot open save session with <server>

All filers using Legato Client for Netapp v.5.5, Patch 2
Also, it isn't clear to me what versions of Data ONTAP are supported by Legato for backups. Our filers are running a mixture of versions of ONTAP:

6.1.2R3
6.0R1
5.3.6R2
6.0.1R3

Any suggestions much appreciated.

We tried to use the Legato client for NetApp on ONTAP version 6.1.1R1 (I think) but with no success. Now we backup the filer as a share for a NT client. This is not supported by Legato but it can be used. There are some recover problems if you are backing up more than one physical drive using Legato 6.1.1 on NT. But it does not stop you from recovering i.e. you can use saveset recovery or there is a funny workaround. If you give it a timegap of even 5 minutes between the completing and starting of another backup.

My suggestion would be to use NDMP to back up the filer to NetWorker. This is much more reliable than the ClientPaks ever were. You have to buy a license for the NDMP Client, but it is much more reliable that the old way.

My suggestion as well would be to use the NDMP module. There are some caveats to this however... you must either be running networker on a Solaris machine (version 6.x) or if you have an NT/2000 server, you have to be using Networker 6.2.

The NetApp ClientPak is set to EOL from Legato. They have a special upgrade programm to the new NDMP Client Connection Module!! The expiration date for the program is 12/31/02. You have to contact a Legato reseller.
