Hello,
I'm having trouble backing up MSSQL files with Networker. I'm running Networker 5.7 on an NT 4.0 server w/SP6a. I've installed the Networker business suite module w/registration number and I'm also using Open File Manager but still no luck. I get the Networker error: "cannot access, file is in use." Legato Tech Support tells me Networker can't do it and that I'll have to do a "cold backup." This just doesn't sound right and I hope someone out there has crossed this bridge before.

I am no expert but we normaly shutdown Oracle during backups. [sig]<p>Ged Jones<br><a href=mailto:gedejones@hotmail.com>gedejones@hotmail.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br>Top man[/sig]

If you are using Networker BSM SQL you don't take this message but if you are using OFM must syncronize mssql database folders... [sig][/sig]

What is your save set. In save set field, you must specify
MSSQL:DBNAME1
MSSQL:DBNAME2
, etc
MSSQL must be in upper case. Then in Remote tab, backup command, you must enter nsrsqlsv.exe or nsrsqlsv.exe -l 1 which gives you a level 1. This backup backs up the database and transaction logs -- not the files themselves. You must be very careful about using this backup if you are running any backup procedures thru SQL itself. For example,
1. SQL does full
2. Legato does full
3. SQL does differential or incremental
Number 3 wil be based on the last ful which legato did. NSRSQLSV.exe manipulates the DB and transaction logs. If you need more help with this you may contact me directly at asaperstein@awards.com [sig][/sig]

Downgrade the networker 5.7 to 5.5.3 or update to 6.0. The 5.7 Version is only good for windows 2000 clients. Update the BSM module to the newest patchlevel [sig][/sig]
