I can not see the exchange information store or mailboxes in the backup windows in Backup Exec 8.5.

Exchange 2000

Each service locally and remotely are logging in as the backup exec services account (Administrator)

-Outlook 2000 is installed on the backup machine
-Exchange Administration is installed on the backup machine
-The service account has a valid alias & e-mail account and is setup and configured on the local machine
-Each local and remote service is logging on as the service account
-Services account is in full control of delegating the exchange server
-Logged in with the backup exec services account

What am I doing incorrectly.....

Any ideas?

Did you installed the Exchange Option on the media server (entered the serial)?

Remove Outlook as this plays havok with the MAPI.

Re run the installer for the backup machine and ensure it says Exchange agent.

I thought I needed Outlook installed for this to work? Do I need a mail client installed? The agent says Exchange 2000 Agent...I'm assuming that is correct cuz it is Exchange 2000 I'm backing up.

Normally you will not need a Mail-Client like Outlook to backup an Exchange 2000. Start the "Backup Exec Remote Agent" Service with the local system account.

Check also, if the beremote.exe file (C:\Program Files\Veritas\RANT\) has the same version than the backup exec media server.

Do I need to install a remote agent on the Exchange server? I already installed the Exchange 2000 Agent on the media server and the Exchange 2000 server.

ncozzolino,
of course! On every system you want to backup you have to install the remote agent! It's the basis for the communication between the media-server and the remote-server.

What you have to know: There is no Exchange Agent wich will be pushed! This is only an option wich will be installed on the backup-server! The only two, ok three agents wich will be pushed are: Remote Agent, AOFO and SAP/R3 Agent...

regards

On my way into work this morning I had a thought. My Exchange server is on SP3, my media server has the system manager of a pre-sp1 disk. Wonder if that has anything to do with it??

Ok, so I installed the SP3 system manager on my media server and it still does work. I also went through and uninstall and reinstalled everything...installing backup exec last. One thing I am unclear of. Backup Exec will not allow me to install the remote agent on the Exchange server because it is already running Backup Exec. Also, I can not just install the Exchange Agent without install the backup server. I'm lost!

I did not realize that I needed to go into remote connections and drill down to the the exchange server then select the information store. None of the documentation that I was reading said to do that. I feel like a tard for not looking at that!!! Thanks for the help!!

dont worry, untill i read to select the information store i didnt know either...vertas help docs are not very specific and helpful to the new user.
