Hi, I'm quite new to this so please be gentle! We have a Windows SBS 2003 server with a Buffalo NAS attached. Backup exec does the server fine but is throwing back 'Access denied' errors for the NAS. Not sure what the problem is here!
No, it isn't capable of running a remote agent, sadly! I have tried following the advice on the symantec knowledgebase and enabling selection of user shares which apparently should allow me to backup the NAS device, but it still errors with 'Access denied'
Ok, I am testing this solution tonight. I will update this post to let you know the answer.
I read on another forum that you could create user-defined selections for Buffalo Terastations. This would solve the issue of failing backups when the remote agent is missing.
If this does not work I will try plan B...also recommended on the same forum. The recommendation was to map drive letters to each share from the Terastations on the Windows server that Backupexec is locally installed on.
user-defined selection in the backupexec backup selection generated the same error message as before. So, I am going to set my backup selection list back to the Buffalo Terastation's netbios name.
I will now try plan B...which is a lot more inconvenient but, if it works it works.
