I recently backed up my announcements board using Avaya Site administration. Even though we have nearly 100 WAV files on the board, the backup file size is only 13kb? Did I do something wrong, or am I missing something?
If you loginto site admin and run the command "list integrated" how much space is showing as used on the board ?
im betting its much more than 13kb ... did you try doing another backup ? .. did you get any failures in ASA ? .. you may have a load of protected announcements that did not backup/

agreed. list all your announcements, look at the size of each announcement. then try backing up a single announcement. check the backed up file size via Windows Explorer. if it works for a single announcement, back up 3 files. if they all seem to back up fine, then back up 10 files. I don't know why they would be protected, but if you start small, you can pinpoint where the issue lies.
Command: display integrated
(don't believe what you read for size and space left on the valboard or virtual val for media-gateways)
Command: list integrated (time of each annc in seconds)
Command: list directory /annc board 2A02 (creation/modification timestamp, size Kb, Protect y/n)
removing announcements from valboards:
1. change announcement, blank out announcement extension does not remove the
associated .wav file. This is working as designed.
If the announcement extension shows Pr "y" this means it is protected and
cannot be erased, recorded over, or removed from the board and list directory
board command will show the .wav as protected "y"
2. If the .wav file is not going to be re-used, it can be removed a few
different ways. NOTE: all will fail if the list directory board command shows
the .wav file is protected.
Before using any option below, the change announcement command from the SAT
must be used to set the Pr "n" so the .wav file is not protected.
A. Use the Announcement Access Code: and erase the announcement, before
using change announcement and blanking out the extension. On newer loads
remove announcement is used for this.
B. Use Val Manager or ftp to connect to the board and delete the .wav
C. Use the SAT interface and from the Command: prompt, "remove file board
02A02 /annc/xxxx.wav"
3. use the .wav file name you want to remove, add a new announcement using this
name. make sure the protected field is set to "y"
4. change announcements, change the protected field to "n"
5. list directory and make sure the protected "y" has changed to "n" for the
.wav file you want to remove
6. remove file board 02A02 /annc/5816.wav

I did another backup, was just the same size. Then I tried backing up just one announcement, that was only 1kb.
Here's a screenshot of the board. Non of the announcements are protected.
I'm trying to backup the 01A08 board. So I click on it in the left hand colom, and then click backup, but as I said, the backup file is ridiciously small.
Also, I'm backing up to a flash drive, I don't know if that makes a difference?
Dial the announcements. You can call any announcement as if it were an extension and this way confirm that it has actual verbiage. I wonder if you're somehow compressing them when you back them up, which is odd. Call Avaya Support if you're still having issues, very strange.
something doesn't sound right, almost like you don't have permissions. try backing up a single announcement to your desktop, not the USB drive. then double click it to make sure it plays and you have an actual file. it might have something to do w/that USB drive. as mentioned before, you might just have to call Avaya Support.
So from the first screen shot you can clearly see in the size column that your announcements have content so the 13kb is total nonsense (in that you are not getting any were near the correct amount)
So get yourself WIN SCP , log into CM type "enable filexfer"
create yourself a login and password (keep it simple) , make secure to be "n"
board address will be "01a08"
Then with winscp enter the IP address of the "val board" ...protocol will be ftp use the credentials you have just created on the CM screen , connect to the board and select one of the files and try and download that file to your desktop.
Does this work?
In essence ASA does the filexfer command in the background , but this method at least proves you can actually get a single file downloaded , from here if winscp works repeat the process and you may identify where the issue lies , you may have a corrupt file the bombs the rest out when using ASA.
Then when you have finished be mindful to turn off file transfer by typing again in CM "disable filexfer board 01a08"
Let us know how you get on with this process.

Not that they mean a thing anymore , get a brain dump pass the test crash the system.
Also what you can try is to busy and release the board in CM , as you may just have a bit of buggy interference going on , to investigate further.
Try running the "test board" command run this with filexfer enabled and then disabled and see what fails and passes in both scenario , its worth doing this before you busy and release the board , as that process may well get rid of the issue , but you would be non the wiser as to what the issue is/was .... this post is more of a personal interest but is good practice in scenarios like this.

montyzummer is correct. in fact, you can do all this via a DOS window. open a CMD prompt, telnet to the val board and perform the filexfer commands. once you enable filexfer, you can use the "get" command to copy the file over. all this is free, you don't need software, just a DOS window. remember, once you copy over a single file, open up windows explorer and double click the file to make sure it plays.
