I am sure others have had this. When changing the background in Win2k and then logging off, as it logs off it displays the previous background picture. The same is true when you log back on just before it loads the picture you actually want.
Any ideas how to get rid of this? I have tried changing it again for a differeinct one but it is stuck on that old one I dont want to see.

The old wallpaper/background settings can be found here:
HKEY USERS\ .DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
Either point to your normal desktop settings, or delete the entries.

A quicker way:
Just go to Display, properties, Desktop, and click twice to apply the background you want. (Yes, click twice to apply).

For some reason even putting it in twice doesnt do it.
On that registry entry you mentioned, what is it i change actually?

Open notepad and save the below as wallpaper.reg

**********start copy/paste below this line
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"=dword:00000000
"Pattern"="(None)"
"TileWallpaper"="0"
"Wallpaper"="(None)"
"WallpaperStyle"="0"
"OriginalWallpaper"=""
*********** end copy/paste above this line

Save the file, and double-click to merge with your registry

Excuse me if this is thick but what do I save it as?

Thanks but it still didnt remove the previous wallpaper????

Go into the display properties from control panel, and turn off Active Desktop.

Cheers

It is not an Active Desktop issue, I believe.

If it is just the backround color:

1) Right click on the desktop and select "Properties" from the Menu.
2) On the resulting window select the "Appearance" Tab then click the "Advanced" button.
3) On the next window select "Color 1" then "Other".
4) Now on the new window select a color you like and note its RGB as shown in the bottom right hand corner of the new window.
For example, for a the shade of Lime Green:
R68 G240 B81 or simply 68 240 81
5) Once you have your RGB values use Cancel to close down all the open windows.
6) Now navigate to:
HKEY USERS\ . DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colours.
7) The default value should be:
0 78 152
You can change this now to your chosen RGB value.

The changes will not take place until you log off.
