I'm working on a Flash web presentation for a client and have a question about sound. I haven't worked with sound much, so I'm grateful for any advice or suggestions. I want to have a main movie the plays a loop of background music (such as drums and bass), then after a while, I load an external swf where I want the music to change to another similar loop (same drums and bass but with some horns and effects over top of it). Towards the end of this external swf (and the end of the entire file) I want to go back to the original loop (just drums and bass). What do you suggest to accomplish this with smooth transitions and small file size?

Thank you. Is AIFF format okay, or do you need MP3 or WAV? They are currently in AIFF, but I can convert them.

For the .flas...

Size doesn't bother me but their format does...

I'm on MX only , not MX2004.

You'd have a better chance of getting an answer if your .fla was in a MX only format, and zipped up.

You would have to save a copy of your MX2004 .fla, (using Save as...) and changing the Document type to MX only in the Save as... window.

Sorry, I should have removed the existing sound before I posted the files. I forgot that was in there and it won't be used. All that will be used are the loops I posted. Starting with he loop with horns, then the external swf is loaded with no horns. Then the horns come back towards the very end of the movie. The sound that is on there, I just dragged from the library to a layer in the intro (overview) swf. Something may have been lost when I saved as MX - I received warnings, but didn't think it would effect sound. Here is a sample I came up with that's not very smooth, but has the right music:

Would the control in the external .swf also pause the music if you paused the movie?"

If possible, that would be a really cool feature.

"Would you possibly ever have a seperate VO on this as well?"

Yes, there is going to be a voice over that runs the entire length of the movie that is being worked on today. It would be great if that paused along with the movie as well.

Thanks!

Just checking to see if you had any luck with this. If you haven't had time, I understand. I now have the voice-over file and I can post that by itself, or within the Flash file, if you're interested in checking it out. Thanks!

Haven't really had time and won't really before Tuesday... But will look into it if only for my own interest...

If you have the VO, sure you could post it, as you may want to dip the music when the VO comes in...

I've posted the latest version of the files (in MX format) with the voice-over and music included. I've got the voice-over synched pretty well with the intro, but I still have work to do when the software demonstration starts to make it all match up. I think I'm definetly going to need to make it so that the control in the external SWF pauses the music and voice-over, as you had asked previously. I've found some tutorials about pausing sound, but they don't seem to apply to external SWF's :(

Here is the main file:

And the external SWF:

Thanks,

Rusty
