Hello,

Can anyone help me sort out this issue. I have a Cisco Callmanage Express running version 4.2 and I am using the new IP phones 7975 and 7945. I managed to make the background images work for 7975 but it is not working for 7945. Can anyone help me.

You help is much appreciated.

Creating Custom Background Images

You can provide users with a choice of background images for the LCD screen on their phones. Users can select a background image by choosing Settings > User Preferences > Background Images on the phone.

The image choices that users see come from PNG images and an XML file (called List.xml) that are stored on the TFTP server used by the phone. By storing your own PNG files and editing the XML file on the TFTP server, you can designate the background images from which users can choose. In this way, you can provide custom images, such as your company logo.

The following sections describe how you can customize the background images that are available at your site by creating your own PNG files and editing the List.xml file:

The List.xml file defines an XML object that contains a list of background images. The List.xml file is stored in the following folder on the TFTP server:

C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12
You will need to create the above directory on your TFTP server as its not created by the install, make sure that the directory and can be accessed by the user .\CCMService

1. Create or find you .png graphics, you will need two of them, a Full size image—320 pixels (width) X 212 pixels (height), and a Thumbnail image—80 pixels (width) X 53 pixels (height).
Colour up to 12-bit color (4096 colors). You can use more than 12-bit colour, but the phone will reduce the colour palette to12-bit before displaying the image. For best results, reduce the colour palette of an image to 12-bit when you create a PNG file.

2. Place the new PNG files that you created in the following folder on the TFTP server for each Cisco CallManager in the cluster:
C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12

3. Now we need to create a List.xml file which contains our new .png's. the List.xml file can include up to 50 background images, so using notepad create a file which looks like :

<CiscoIPPhoneImageList>

<ImageItem Image="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/TN-kermit.png" URL="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/kermit.png"/>

<ImageItem Image="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/TN-lara.png" URL="TFTP:Desktops/320x212x12/lara.png"/>

</CiscoIPPhoneImageList>

Now save the files as List.xml file and place it in the directory C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x212x12

4. Now your images are ready to display on the phone by choosing Settings > User Preferences > Background Images

Do you know of any way that I can force 7945/7965 phones to use a specific background image? (I have already created and pushed out the one I want phones to use)

Thanks for the reply..I managed to amke it work using the above procedures...thanks Joeyrego

I followed this procedure to the Tee and it's not displaying the images on 7975.

Both images and the list.xml are in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Cisco\TFTPPath\Desktops\320x216x16 (I also the 320x212x12 path and that didn't work either)

- <CiscoIPPhoneImageList>
<ImageItem Image="flash:Desktops/320x212x16/TN-ElSTH.png" URL="flash:Desktops/320x212x16/ElSTH.png" />
<ImageItem Image="flash:Desktops/320x212x16/TN-ElSWALL.png" URL="flash:Desktops/320x212x16/ElWALL.png" />
</CiscoIPPhoneImageList>

I also tried using the TFTP instead of the flash and in either case only the default factory background is in the option for background images.

I'M MISSING ONE STUPID STEP SOMEWHERE AND IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT?

No, but the image (not thumb) works on my IPC phone but not on the 7975 regular IP phones.

Is there a different size format that the image needs to be set to for it to work on the 7975?

for some reason it's only showing on the IPC phones.

I think I'm ready to throw the towel in on this. I have version 4.1(3) and I'm convinced background images on 7975 don't work on this version. I can get the image to display on 7970, IPC. but not the 7975. I have restarted the TFTP service I have disabled and re-enabled the Bin option under advance TFTP services. I tried XML format both FLASH: and TFTP:, I have tried both folders 320x216 and 320x212. NOTHING :(

To get this to work, you need to set up a another file as the 7975 look for a different resolution.
the standard file is 320x212x12, if you create another file 320x216x16 and copy your .png files into it, then stop and start TFTP and reboot your phones, this should work.

I figured it out. However, Cisco's website is not 100% I set the image for the thumbnail to the resolution which is right on 7975 user guide for screen resolution 74x49 and the actual image to 296x196 and the folder named as I had already had it named 320x216x16. So, if you got it working with any other resolution I don't know how. If you go to cisco's website look at specs on the 7975 the max resolution is 296x196. I think people (as well as myself) felt the image needed to be the same resolution (that is not the case).

I have an issue. The 7970 displays everything perfect (doesnt even need restart) but I cant for the life of me get the 7945s to display i tried all sorts of resolutions googling around but I guess i havent set on the magic folder structure yet. The 7945 displays "selections unavailable" when i go to the background images menu. I take this to mean that I dont have the correct resolution specified under my folder structure. Problem is im not sure what numbers to use.

Anyone got a 7945 working with this?

Could anyone help me on how to convert the images because am wondering why it si not working on my 7945 IP phone.

Again, how can i make it work on my router without having to use an external tftp?

Thanks
