Within our office we are currently looking at the best possible ways of backing up emails stored on our public folders. Every year we will need to back up at least 2GB of information (for a period of 7 years).

We have come to believe that the best option is to archive the emails on to a removable Hard Disk (40 - 60GB in size). The archive process will be carried out on a monthly basis with the HD disk then being taken off site for 'Disaster Recovery' purposes.

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Thanks

Sam

Hi SamDemon,

Do you have a backup solution? Depending on your IT budget, it may be worthwhile to propose a backup solution for your company.

R u using Win 2k? or Win 2k3? You may like to use the NT backup as the most economical approach, then save the .bkf file.

It's desirable to backup the information store, mailboxes everyday if possible.

Cheers,

Libroos,

We already take back ups of the folders onto tape cartridges. What we would like is to be able to view the emails without having to do a complete restore of a tape. In essence, point Outlook to where the folders are archived and view them as you would your normal emails.

The only problem I see with removable hard drives is that they are still mechanical and can stop working. Granted it’s unlikely that it would fail but it always happens when it's the most inopportune time. For 2 gigs of backup I might look into a DVD writer and just take the DVD off site.
