Back up tape for Definity G3R

Both back up tapes for Definity G3R appear to be bad. I have used the 3Com cleaning procedure to clean the tape drive itself to no avail. We continue to get errors on backup.

Someone is offering to sell us a tape for a 3.1.230.6 release system while our current system is a 3.3.246.1 release. Will the tape work?

If you do a 'backup disk full' it will copy everything from the hard drive, including the OS, to the tape and overwrite everything on the tape.

An older tape will work with a newer release, just not the other way around (new -> old).

You may be able to update your G3r with a Optical Disk. Avaya would come out and remove the tape drive and replace it with a TN2211. This used to be free. You'll need to call Avaya to see if they stiil offer this pack. You could go online for this circuit pack.
We had to do this with all our G3r V6.3 because we could no longer buy tapes.
