My 2.5 gig SCSI QIC tape drive finally bit the dust. I want to move to a faster media. Would replacing the drive be straight forward if I got a dat drive? If so, are there any manufacturers I should shy away from?

Our hardware supplier went out of business so Im on my own at the moment.

Also is using a scsi CDRW an option? I am using Lone-tar on and SCO 5 3.2.5.06 system.

Anyhelp apreciated.

Yes it would be pretty straight forward. It just requires swapping the tape drive and going into mkdev tape logged on as root. You then remove the existing tape drive and before exiting add the other tape drive. Then rebuild and reboot. I suggest Seagate 24GB DAT drive. They come with an excellent warranty and Seagate will give rma on their website if it ever crashes during the warrnaty period. Our turn aroung on a bad drive is usually less than 2 weeks after it was sent in. Hope this helps.
