Hello.

I wondered if anyone can help me. I have an NT server (sp6a) running arcserve 6.61. I do a back up and then restore the whole lot to an W2k Server and only half the stuff appears ( after waiting 26 hours for it to do so, 20gb) although the actual backup of the data was a full backup with no errors why does it not restore the whole lot?

To test I picked one folder which did not restore (it appears in the restore tree) and restored it to the w2K server (sp2) it says that the restore is successful and the number of MB restored is correct ( actually there is a few MB more !?!)but it is not on the w2k server. How can it say that it has restored successfully when it has not? All the updates have been done on the arcserve 6.61.

As a further test I backed it up using a win2k server that has Arcserve 2k sp3 on it and the same thing happened backup successful and restore successful but no folder appears where is should have been found.

Any help on this would be great, as far as I am concerned I do not have a decent backup right now.

I have looked at my backup a little more carefully, it turns out that the data has indeed been restored but only the subfolders. All the parent folders of all the subfolders have gone so the tree has totally lost its structure and the data has been scattered all over the place.

Is there anyway you can restore so it is exactly as you backed it up thus retaining the tree structure?

Hey all,

Can anyone lend a hand with this, has anyone had this before?

When doing a restore check the options and the destination tab and select the dir structure for the restore.
You can seclect 3 options on how to restore your data.

AH,

Nice one, so presumably you can retain the tree structure. It took 26 hours to restore 20 GB of data, is this normal? The other thing I always wondered was if a system is backed up and then wiped, you re-install the OS and the arcserve software but how would you get the info back on the server from the tape? Does arcserve just look at the contents of the tape an work it out for itself?

thanks,

When backing up nt4 server using arcserve 6.61 2 directories are not backed up even when doing a full backup - no error is given but when you try to restore you cannot expand the tree. Initially it seemed like the rights were an issue so gave the directories and subdirectories administrator rights and thought this would cure it. It didnt - only directories are now backed up but no files even though administrator has full control to them Any ideas?

Duran,

You would have to merge the details from the tape back into the Arcserve database. Once the details are merged, you can then restore by session and choose what files\folders you need to restore.
