I ma seting up a two router lab. I used a setup for back-to-back Frame Relay which I got off the Cisco website. Both interfaces are up and up yet I can not ping eather side. Any one got a clue? I am just starting out on my CCNA. Thanks Andy

DCE setup Router 1

interface serial0
no ip address
encapsulation frame-relay
no keepalive
clock rate 64000
interface serial0.1
point-to-point
ip address 172.16.120.105 255.255.255.0
frame-realy interface-dlci 101

DTE setup Router 2

interface Serial0
no ip address
encapsulation frame-relay
no keepalive
interface serial0.1
point-to-point
ip address 172.16.120.120 255.255.255.0
frame-relay
interface-dlci 101

I tried interface serial1 both sides up and up but no luck. I guess I should be able to ping the ip on the serial interface as well as the ethernet. The routers look good. Two 2501's

I just noticed you have a class B ip address and a class C subnet mask. I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

Can you set up a back-to-back framerelay setup like that?
Don't you need some kind of FR-switch or simulator in between the to Routers?
(to simulate the FR cloud).

I was reading a little and noticed that for ping to work on a serial line. It has to bounce of the other end of the connection. I tryed trace and It comes up with 30 set of astics. I now have the serial interfaces at 192.168.100.1/24 and 192.168.100.2/24

Tracing the route to 192.168.100.1

Router2#

I can't understand why I can't ping from router1 or router2 to its own serial interface I guess ping is completly diffrent on a serial line. From the trace above I would guess data is passing over the line.
The cisco doc I used is at this location.
I'l try HDLC & PPP.

Got it working. I tried both HDLC & PPP could ping all interfaces. It maybe I don't understand the back-to-back fraem-relay doc from cisco in early posting or it gust does't work.

Thanks to every one who responed. I can see in just a few days of working with the two 2501 routers that it is of great help for the CCNA test.
