Hello-

Access 2000,

I was messing around with a backup DB trying to work out User Level security. I am the Admin and should have access to modify table formats. Where can I do that??? User Level security works fine. The front end obviously I can't change table format and the back end turned into a "secured" DB. When I go into it, there are no tables???

Basically, how do modify table design after I have set up user level security and encrypted the DB?

Provided you have given someone permission to modify the tables then you log on as that user.

Do you mean you can't see the tables or you can't see the database window?

The database window is there, but no tables or forms or anything, just these people who I have created access for.

Name
Admins
Full Data Users
Read-Only Users
Users

All under queries.

Sounds as if you are trying to open the .mdw file.
Why would you want to do that? All security settings are controlled through the mdb file.

Try this...
Create a new database, without any security. Then try to import the tables. If you can see the tables, you can rest assured they are there.

Also, the tables may be hidden. From the menu, "Tools" -> "Options", select "View" tab, and enable "Hidden Objects". You may want to disable this view later.

Did you tweak the settings for "Admin"? It is possible to remove permissions.

No i just set up a basic three person security for practice. Admin, all permissions, one user read only, another edit add. I will try importing tables, but I am confused to why i can't see the tables. Encyrption??? The database is spit, would that cause a problem?

Hmmmm
The database is spit

Are you openning up the back end or front end?
Back end should contain the data tables.
Front end should contain links to the data tables.

Are you sure the database is split?

If you are working on the front end, were the links deleted? If so, you may want to try linking again (using link manager)

Yes the database is split...like the title says. The front end won't operate without the back end linked, which it is.
