Hi
I'm new to backups and have Backup Exec 11d. Can someone advise on how I backup Exchange Server with this backup software please. It seems to be pretty straight forward using windows backup but not so with Backup Exec.

Do I need to install the continuous data protection disk too as at the moment I think only the software disk is installed?

I also need to backup SQL server.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Apologies for the spelling mistake in the title.

If you want to have continuous protection, you need to install the CPS console as well. DO NOT USE AOFO in your installation of the CPS agents on your Exchange servers. When you have installed CPS agents and the CPS console, create a backup job, selecting only the Microsoft Information Store on each server. Run this as a full backup. In the BUExec console, select the Media tab, and then choose how many days to retaing folders (we use 2 days to save drive space on the Media server...it will fill up FAST!). After you've created the Full BU job(s), select Run Now to start the BU. Once that main BU is done, you should get log files every time there's a change in the store, and a snapshot every 8 hours (the default). To retain the files, we back up after every full BU occurs (by time/date), and run our Diff tape BU's every night, again by time/date (this saves tape time and BU time as well, since it only BU files that have changed dates & time).

Hope this helps. We just went from 11d to 12d. That was NOT fun!

Thanks for your replies. It was just that I couldnt find where to enable Exchange backups in the backup software.

Now I found it but got this error and followed these instructions.

I still got the same error message so followed these instructions.

However, whwre I have to right click the user then properties and go to Exchange Advance tab the tab isnt there for my backupexec user. However, it is there for all other users. Why would it be there for all users but not the backupexec one?

Just when I thought i had it sorted another problem arises. :(

Regards
Dan
