Hi

We just upgraded three servers from Novell 4.11 to 6.0 and installed A 9.0 on all three. Two work fine but the third gives us the unable to authenticate error ec=-1

tried the fully qualified nds name, made sure the port was only being used by Arcserve port 111 Made sure all of the dns entries are correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like the same problem we had recently. after installing a new Netware server with Arcserve we couldn't connect with the AS-Manager.

the reason is mostly SLP, sometimes it's o.k. to write your Servername and IP in the Manager-PCs hosts-file

first try to reregister your server in SLP with
SET SLP Reset = On on the Serverconsole

if this dosn't work check in Netwaremonitor -> Serverparameters your SLP settings
should be:
SLP DA Discovery Options = 12 12 = SLP.cfg + DHCP-off
SLP Register nwserver = on
SLP Enable UA Multicast = on

after changing settings
reregister the server

check if your server is listed if you type in this commandline

DISPLAY SLP SERVICES service-type/scope/service-name e.g. (bindery.novell/global/svcname-ws)==servername wild cards can be used e.g. FS-XY*

sometimes with bad SLP design, the slp list is to long so your server is not seen by other machines. with the reregistering your server is set to the top of the slp list.

unable to authenticate error ec=-1

caroot was not create , how i fix it?

check the ca_auth.exe utility. In there you can manage the caroot and other accounts ( remember this is purely to login to BrightStor ARcserve servers, these users have NO rights at all within Windows environments ).
You can find information on how to use this utility on the ARCsderve administrator guide that is located onb the CD-ROM

regards

We found the problem with our Novell 6.0 server and Arcserve 9.0.

By deleting the NLS object and recreating it allowed the arcserve manager to log in

Thanks to all for your help
