I,m using NRU 11 and trying to connect to several different sites doing "Operator Assisted" and keep getting "RAD Did Not Respond". I have the operator verify that the RAD is working by doing "Feature 9**". The operator will do "Feature 9*0" to transfer me, I see "Connect at 12000" or sometimes "Connect at 14400" then I get "RAD Did Not Respond". Phone line quality is good and line cords are good. Tried three different PC/Modem combinations, still have problem. Any ideas?

can you try directly? (locally PC to RAD)
try connecting at a lower speed ... say 9600

I'm in IL. and the remote sites are all over the country. Some in CA.,WA.,TX., GA., FL., NY., NJ., IA., IN.,etc...

I've tried different baud rates as low as 9600, same thing.

Just an update. I just started using new computers all with XP Pro on them. The modems work OK on Meridian 1 modems using Pro Comm but, not using NRU11. My old PC was running Windows 2K. NRU 11 worked OK on that PC. Modem configurations look the same.

I thought there were only 2 settings on rad 9600 and 19200 remote only worked at 9600 and auto detect did not work ..had to set modem for 9600...19200 only worked for direct connect

Curlycord, I tried what you said, same problem. I went and pulled out my old modem card from my old PC and tried to connect. This time I got "Connect at 12000" then about 15 seconds after that I got "RAD did not respond". Could it be something with the Intl String for the modem? I've tried several different configurations. I've tried 4 different locations and 3 different PC's and get the same result. I checked the phone line for noise, it's clear. I'm lost!

Re-boots did not clear problems. I have no problems accessing some of the sites, like Seattle and Kent WA. Chicago, Detroit, and Cincinnati. The RAD's can be accessed thru programming on-site (Feature 9**)

guess u should take one u know works and send out pre programmed and see if that works

I always have the best results by using an external modem.
By watching the RD and SD lights, you will be able to get very good clues on your connections. A Norstar session will keep a constant handshake going between your modem and the RAD, thus you will see a rapid flashing between the two lights. If they flash a bit then stop, then flash a bit and stop, I can almost gurantee that the line quality is borderline for data at one end or the other. I base this on over 2500 remote sites. I have about 2 percent that I can't connect to, but another tech in a different state can.
He has some sites that he can never connect to, but I can.
Go figure, but line quality has to be better than good.
WOTRS, How do you know line quality is good?????

MarvO said it

Line quality on my end is within 2% of allowance for db, noise, voltage and suppression. I've also tried a line at another location with the same problem. I did talk to someone today that suggest that if the RAD's that I'm having issues with are older and I'm using NRU 11, the firmware in the RAD may not work and I would have to downgrade to NRU 10. I might try that just to see if that works. Can't hurt!
