In my win2k pro in device manager in atapi secondary in
properties there is no advanced tab showing pio or dma.
Should I have installed dma at initial install of win2k
on my reformatted harddrive? found info in FAQ to install a
register setting for enabling dma but dont know if that is all
I have to do to get this to show up in system device manager
and to be operable!
thanks

Not having DMA could be because of several different reasons. Adding unknown registry settings to your registry could cause your pc from not working at all.

But whats most likely is that you need to install the proper chipset drivers to allow changing your DMA settings. I don't have any windows 2000 machine to look at but I think the default MS driver don't have the option of changing DMA.

I would recommend you to download the right driver for your chipset and install it.

Also note that to use DMA higher than 4 you need to have an 80 ribbon IDE cable.
