Hello ALl,
I recently purchased AVG enterprise and now find the installation on a Win2K3 server a problem. I purchased this from a vendor that said they would help me install it. Well when I called for help, I was guided to try to install it first and call back if I had questions. Onto my problems.....
First, I wanted to use MS SQL instead of firebird, we have close to 2k in PCs. After selecting the option to run MSSQL scripts before installing AVG I was prompted by the Datacenter wizard I followed the prompts. I did not get a connection to the database. The only reason I knew about the scipts was finding an article on scripts for the MS SQL database. My vendor did not know this was suppose to be done. Also, my vendor had absolute zero experience with SQL and AVG. Does anyone out there have experience with AVG and SQL? The ports are open, the database AVG was created, SQL 2005 is being used. I see the AVG Database, I am not sure what the TCP server function is either. I was never prompted for my key until I opened TCP Server. There is no firewall in our network that needs ports opened. This is one Win2k3 Server trying to communicate with another Win2k3 SQL server The Vendor is perplexed. They think we should make another instance of SQL based on a suggestion without a reason, this would be risky for the cluster. Our Server is in a cluster and we tried the cluster name as well as the server name in the wizard.

I spent nearly all day with the vendor and still do not have AVG enterprise configured on our Win2k3 server. What a mess. I have less than 2 weeks to get this deployed. I would love to know what to do with this and perhaps be able to share the information with others. If the vendor does solve this I will definately post the steps we went through so that in the event someone goes looking for help they can find it here.
Best,
GarGreat

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem, but I'll put this out there, just in case it helps, or leads you in the right direction:

Some AV's have the effect of paralyzing database connections by subjecting every file or snippet thereof to a scan. If the logic (or lack thereof) in that data is unfamiliar to the AV engine, it can cause the engine to scrutinize long and hard. It does this (possibly) for fear of reporting a false alarm simply because it doesn't recognize a pattern.

I have not run into this with win2k3+AVG + mssql, but I have with MAS90's database and Norton. You may want to start by researching Norton+database or Norton+MAS90 or Symmantec plus the above.

Hope this helps...someone.
