Avaya Software - help me understand software releases

hi, can someone demystify for me how Avaya software releases are numbered and what they mean? From the display capacity command, here's the info from one of our systems that is supposed to be on Release 5:


CURRENT SYSTEM INFORMATION

Software Load: R015x.01.2.416.4
Memory Configuration: Extra Large
Offer Category: A

LAST TRANSLATION LOADED INFORMATION

Software Load: R013x.01.5.642.3
Memory Configuration: G3x(large)
Offer Category: A
Platform: 0


Why does the software load begin with an R, then a 0, then a 1 if the release is supposed to be 5? Who does that? Windows 7 isn't R.017, it's just 7. And what is x.01.2.416.4?

If I remember correctly:

R = Release
015 = Definity version 15

so is this system on version 15 or version 5? i don't get it.

it looks to me like that system is running CM 5.1.2

right, but how did you know that? why is the 01 not relevant and what does the x mean in the whole line? then what does the 416.4 mean?

it's a lot of info, but for what?

I think that starting with Definity Release 11 the product was renamed from Definity to Communication Manager, but the phone system software naming convention was the same, so Definity R011 was Communication Manager 1.0, etc.

It is common for software companies to have a real name and a marketing name for their software. In your Windows 7 example, the real name for the Windows software version on my system is "7600.16617.amd64fre.win7_gdr.100618-1621", but the marketing name is "Windows 7 Ultimate".

I hope this helps explain it.

thanks for all the feedback. so how do i interpret future systems when i run a "display capacity" command? examples:

Software Load: R011r.03.2.536.1
Memory Configuration: G3rV11
Offer Category: A

LAST TRANSLATION LOADED INFORMATION
