We are licensed for avaya 2050 softphones, but we are licensed for version 2.0a and not the current 4.0. I think it was nortel when we purchased the licenses.

I can't load version 4.0 without paying about $2K in upgrades. Does anyone have the version 2.0 softphone software?

We have the licenses but don't have the software.

How do you have the license? At release 2.0 you could order the CD with the 2050, this was the lisence i think.
Do you have something different? Maybe you are comfused with the IP user license?

I migrated to a new laptop and loaded 4.0. the tech from the provider that sold us the phone system said that i was getting the "trial message" because we were licensed for 2.0 and not 4.0. The solution was to load the 2.0 software and it would activate properly. That is what he said. They do not keep the old software so he sent me to this site as there was a thread on this from a few years back.

I see, so you do not have a license for release 2.0 softphone as there was never kind of license. Most likely your tech installed you a copied 2050 on the old computer.
Nortel and then Avaya introduced licensing on 2050 at release 3.0 and onwards so at your situation you should have the original CD.
I am not sure if the software can be shared in the forum, have you tried to google for it?

Thanks for the info. I ended up finding the software and loaded it up and it works great on the network.

My issue now is that if I am on a VPN connection, there is not sound through the headset. Oddly, the microphone works fine. With the same audio settings, other applications work fine through the headset speakers. So it is not a settings issue. It is only when i try to use the version 2 phone over vpn.

I loaded an evaluation license of version 4 and it worked fine over vpn, so I am thinking it is a software issue.

Does that sound right to you?

And thanks for you help.
