Hi,

We have an IP Office 406 on one side and an IP 500 DS in another room (about 130 ft away). We would like to keep these separate and I was wondering if there is a network extender/repeater that is compatible with the IP office system.

All help is sincerely appreciated.

Thanks

If I understand this question right you want to keep them as seperate systems yet have them communicate with each other?

A plain old Cat5 cable will link them together nicely :)

It would be cool if avaya came out with some hardware IP connector for the DS exp modules so you could have digital phones for remote offices...

They are trying to push IP phones over digital anyway, so I doubt anything will come :)

What you are doing will not work
The DS module must be connected with the supplied blue cable
If you do not do this you will have big problems !
Or you must pull cables or you have to place another system or like amriddle said, use ipphones

Ahhhh, I thought you were saying you had a 405 and an IP500 that you wanted to link together...sorry. Indeed you cannot seperate system and expansion modules any further than the 1m patch lead will allow :)

Or you can run a voice link/split out some cat5 cables if you have plenty spare :)

yeah did an install using copper voice links the other day between two floors. worked out cheaper than vcms and ip handsets.

See what my brain does when it's not thinking about phones.

Do it all the time mate, usually when the old system and lines are in a broom cupboard miles away from the comms room :)

funnily enough, this was a new install, but they took 2 floors and decided to cable floor one back to a cab on floor one and then do the same on the ground floor and run a fibre to connect the switches.

See what my brain does when it's not thinking about phones.

That's is actually the way to do it properly, Cat5/Cat6 isn't supposed to be used for vertical links in structured cabling, but for ease most just run back to one cab :)

All,

Thanks for the information. We are currently setup as amriddle01 said - splitting Cat 5 cables and patching them over, but I was hoping for a different solution. However, it definitely is the quickest way to get things up and running.

Thanks for all the help...
