Hi,

I ,ve a quick editin system with 2 1616 quick edition phones, 1 4621sw and an Avaya g20 bri gateway. I am able to detect all the phones and place calls between them. But I cannot detect the g20 gateway. I can see the gateway in the lan and login to web interface which is a Patton one.

I reset the gateway from the reset button but still cannot see the g20 on the devices list

Any help will be appreciated because I ve no experience with quick edition systems.

Neither do we really, this forum is for IP Office systems. Quick Edition was a poorly thought out and poorly implemented experiment that never really worked.

Someone may know....if you're lucky :)

You mean there's a release crappier than basic mode?
I thought that was an analogue line.
Fk me.

Upon inspection it appears to be a subset of basic mode.

Something like "Ministry of pain: Truncheon Division"
It truly is the poverty pack, mate.

Upon inspection it is supported:

BRI ISDN Gateway Setup
20. Add G20 BRI ISDN gateways to the network.
If power has been applied correctly, power LED will blink GREEN.
G20 does NOT support power over ethernet. Use of wall adaptor is required.
21. Assign IP address to G20.
With DHCP server:
6 Avaya one-X™ Quick Edition System Setup Instructions May 2007
● Connect G20 to the same subnet as the local Quick Edition system.
● G20 broadcasts multicast address.
● Quick Edition responds to multicast broadcast. G20 is added to Device Management
and can be seen as a device in the web-based interface.
Without DHCP server:
● G20 does not support Zeroconf IP address assignment.
● Connect G20 RJ45 LAN port directly to an Ethernet Port on your PC.
● Configure the PC with a static IP address.
● Browse to 192.168.123.10 to administer G20 and assign static IP, subnet mask and
default IP gateway address.
● Save running configuration and reload.
● Reset assigned IP Address on PC.
● Connect G20 to the Quick Edition system. G20 broadcasts multicast address.
● Quick Edition responds to multicast broadcast. G20 is added to Device Management
and can be seen as a device in the web-based interface.
22. G20 IP activity.
When the device has joined the Quick Edition site, the Power LED will be solid GREEN
and the device will be listed in the device management screen of the web-based interface.
By default the name given is "G20" and this device is not provided with a system extension
number.
23. Assign BRI ISDN channel.
● Configure SIP Proxy Identities by creating internal system identities to be associated
with the BRI channels provided by the Service Provider. This is performed in the SIP
Proxy menu of the web-based interface.
● Associate Proxy Identities to specific physical ports on the G20. This is performed in
the G20 device management menu of the web-based interface.

Quick Edition has no system, the handsets themselves form the system using special firmware, you web onto one of the phones that acts as a master handset IIRC. The gateways are just line breakout boxes they aren't integral to the functioning of the "system". I played with it once as Avaya let one of our customers have it for free (as a reference site).....they ripped it out and installed a Panasonic...that's how bad it is :)

It was a great idea for a small business with 2, 3 or even 4 phones. But that's where it stopped because all the advantages evaporated rapidly with each additional phone and the issues increased exponentially. Somewhere there's a document that covers the process of turning a Quick Edition set back into a normal dumb phone.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I have installed one once while it was in beta and it was replaced by an IPO later.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thanks for your replies.

The problem is that I cannot detect the g20 from the quick edition web enviroment of the main phone. I am able to ping it login to it's web envoromeτ using admin:nimdbg
Password:54321 its operational but I cannot detect it. Is it possible to add it from the main phone ?

I posted the only inztructions above and the link to the manual.

had a lot of bad experiences with the Quick Edition (sales guy sold 20 of them years ago and I almost suggested shooting him for it :)) and only had problems with it.
Throw it out and get a phone system. Anything would be probably better than this. Setting these things up from scratch takes only half an hour or so.
But
If you want to try and fix that one, default it all and start from scratch was sometimes the only way to get it working again. You can start with defaulting the G20 gateway first and see if it can join again, also make sure that you only have 1 community on the network and not multiple as that confuses the heck out of these things.

If you see the G20 as a Patton then it has wrong software laoded. Looks like someone thought to improve the g20 with loading Patton firmware ( which is a improvement on itself) but it makes it incompatible with Quick edition. I don't think you van get the Avaya firmware back on it (never tried though) as Quick edition gives you a quick headache as well.

hi westi,

So if i understand correctly i've to reset the quick edition site and then what, just pray for the g20 to be detected automatically ?

I ve login to the web interface og g20 and it says Avaya g20 quick edition so it has the avaya firmware and not the Patton but still can be detected automatically can i add it from the phone and not the web environment of quick edition ?

Thanks

You have to join the G20 to the group but can't remember how to do it as the last time was about 5 years ago that I had to do it.

Did i not post the correct instructions in my reply? Have you tried that?

We want to see Fraulein Maria.

yes, i've tried that but it didnt work.

When i telnet to 192.168.123.10 i assign a static ip to interface eth0 right ?

Also which command should i use to assign a default gateway ?

Thanks

That's because they went out of business shortly after I imagine.... :)

My g*d...

Quik edition.

I was once certified for this (did the assesment just for fun, and passed it...)

hi westi,

Do you mean add the G20 to the Quick edition site ?
It is supposed to be added automatically according to the manual when you plugin the g20 to the quick addtion LAN it sends a multicast address and the quick edition adds it in the Devices.

>When i telnet to 192.168.123.10 i assign a static ip to interface eth0 right ?

You are using the same IP range as the phones aren't you?

or put another way...
What IP addresses are you using for the handsets and for the G20

It is so long since I touched that horrid thing called Quick edition.., (Did you know it was supposed to be easy enough to set up that it was for direct sale to end users) The company I worked for sold 2 or 3 and decided that it was cheaper to replace with IP office than keep sending people to site to fix them.

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

<mattknight>

Of course i am using the same ip range, by the way i 've a dhcp for the phones and the G20, so all the components are in the same LAN.

I am uploading an image just to show you the web page of the Avaya G20

Also why i dont see in the ports section the BRI ports is this correct because in all other Patton models you can see the BRI ports.
