I have an avaya partner acs r8 system. I am having problems with the auto attendant. Heres the setup:
Auto attendant answers, a message is played telling the caller to press 1 or press 2. 1 goes to extension 11 and 2 goes to extension 12. What I want to happen is if 11 or 12 does not answer that the general delivery mail box on extension 10 will answer after a certain number of rings (on 11 or 12) so the caller can leave a voicemail. What happens now is it just rings 5 or 6 times then pauses and starts to ring again.

So you don't want 11 or 12's mailbox to answer the transferred call? You want mailbox 10 to answer of 11 or 12 don't answer their transferred call?

What voicemail are you using? If you have Partner Messaging, you can use Phantom Destination to have 11 and 12's mailboxes answer, but deposit the incoming message in mailbox 10.

If you have Partner Voice Messaging, the best you can do is trick the system by not turning on Auto VMS Coverage on 11 and 12, making sure you have deleted mailbox 11 and 12, misprogramming the Transfer Return Extension for the voicemail ports, and turn on Auto VMS Coverage for Ext. 10. The call will transfer to 11 or 12, ring, no answer it will return to the voicemail port that did the transfer, and lacking a matching mailbox, the call will now transfer to the operator, Ext. 10. 10 will ring and cover to mailbox 10.

i have the partner messaging voicemail. Its probably easier to do this. What if I set it up this way. Have 1 on the auto attendant go to extension 11 and have 2 on the auto attendant go to extension 12 and have seperate mail boxes for 11 and 12. That way after a certain # of rings those mail boxes would answer. After I setup those mailboxes How do I make those mailboxes answer instead of it just constanly ringing over and over? Thank you so much for your help.

Easy peasy - turn on Auto VMS Coverage for Ext. 11 and 12 - #310-11-1, #310-12-1.

Create mailboxes 11 and 12 in Partner Messaging, set the selector codes in the auto attendant to Selector Code Transfer, 1 going to Ext. 11, 2 going to Ext. 12.

Call transfers from the auto attendant, rings the extension, covers to the mailbox. Done.
