I'm looking to replace a Merlin Messaging drive with an SSD ide drive. Is this possible with dd and linux? There was a thread about this previously in the Partner forum but the thread was closed and it described a different scenario. In his scenario the source drive is in the current working MM module.

Thanks

The drives used by AT&T/Lucent/Avaya voicemail systems contain proprietary software.

If you have an Avaya Merlin Messaging voicemail with a bad drive, I am aware of a dealer who sells both standard and flash replacement drives:

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks Dexman. I didn't intend on even looking at or mounting any filesystems on the drive. I was just looking at doing a block level copy with dd. Maybe I misinterpreted your response. Did you mean the 2.5in hard drive has a proprietary firmware?

Thanks

You might also want to run your scenario by Tom Daugirdas (see Tom is a little less active on the Merlin forums than he used to be, but only because he's so busy these days. The guy knows his stuff when it comes to Avaya voicemail products and the kind of low-level hard drive stuff you're asking about.
