Can anyone help me. I have an IP phone, 4602 IP. That has had it's firmware upgraded by the tftp server, but has got itself stuck in a cycle
loading...starting...loading etc..

I think It's the firmware that has got itself corrupted and I want to factory default the phone to it's basic default firmware so I can check the phone and to start again, but I can't find any info on how this can be done.

Any ideas?

try an older firmware
if that works than try again with the latest one

I would if I was able to, but the phone loops and never even tries to access the files on the tftp server.

Loading: (seconds)
a02d01b2_3.bin....
Starting ....
and then loops round again. never getting any further. which is why I need to reset it to factory defaults.

Try punching buttons while it boots. * or hold in particular. If you can get some action there then you can do hold + addr to see what address are being used. You can also issue any other hold+ command

Excuse the obvious but check that the TFTP server (typically Manager) is running and that the file the phone wants is there in the same folder as the 46xxupgrade.scr file.

The phones are low intelligence, they just download the 46xxupgrade.scr file and following the instructions in that file.

If that don't help reset the phone

HOLD CLEAR (25327)
This wil clear everything and start all over again.

p.s.
Is manager on broadcast?

i do not want to be rude but read better before give an answer (i also forget it sometimes)
the phone does not even get that far to find a tftp server
it also does not get registerd so you can clear everything
it is stuck in the start
i think that you have to replace it and send the broken one to avaya

yes pete, you're right the phone "That has had it's firmware upgraded by the tftp server" has according to you has not even got as far as finding the TFTP. smirk grin chortle laugh eat own before stones glass house

Try running monitor and turning on the interface traces. Enter in the MAC address of the phone and see if you get to the point where you see ARP requests in the traces.

You may be failing the initialization process if the IP phone startup which is step 1 of 5. ARP requests are somewhere in the middle of step 1 and are the first seeable traces as far as I know.

In this case I would replace the unit and send the faulty unit to Avaya to have them fix it.
If it's stuck in boot-up loop I don't know of much you can do.

Maybe it wasn't necessary to quote this much, but as tlpeter said, read the whole post :p

Whoa, IT's like the old Usenet used to be, a thread, a question, a repost and before you know it. Isreal is Nuking Beirut!

Hold on a minute?????

No, anyway..
Thanks to all, I've managed to downgrade the firmware now. I used the "press and hold the * button" trick and after a few attempts... it FINALLY got past the looping stage and started the tftp loading.
So I'm now down at an older version of the firmware and it boots and registers just fine now.
Thanks again

So before we get into the handbags at dawn stage. Stop it or I'll come over and slap all your legs!!
