I have a customer who has an IP Office 500 V2 Rel. 9.0.4.0.965 Preferred edition. All digital phones at corporate office, and 9608 IP phones at remote sites. At the corporate office they have a Sonicwall TZ 215 and each of the remote sites they have Sonicwall TZ 205. At remote sites they are sharing each jack with the 9608 phone and the PC. THe complaint is that the remote phones keep going dowwn. THey will go to discover and stay that way. The VPN tunnel does not go down, the PC is fine. Just the phone. Their IT vendor says that they can ping the phones while in the discover state. The other odd thing is that while they are down, if you go into Manager and make any small change and merge, all the phones will reconnect. A 9608 onsite in corporate does not go down with the others. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what might be wrong and what we can do to resolve this?

Turn off the H323 fixups etc on the Sonicwalls, they interfere with voice related traffic in this case the keepalives it seems. This is the sonicwalls before you argue back, it's been proved countless times before with this exact same issue and many others :)

Thank you amriddle01. No argument here as I do know it is the Sonicwalls. The issue is that the client's IT vendor has all the control and access to the Sonicwalls and I have none. They use SOnicwalls for all their clients and insisted on using them here as well. We typically use Netgear which we know all the ins and outs there but we have not worked with SOnicwall. We have a ticket with Avaya who is maintaining it is the Sonicwalls but the client wants Avaya onsite to show them how to configure. which we know will not happen. We did have them turn off the H323 translations and they even extended the SA Lifetime although that is not the problem because the VPN does not go down. WHen you say H323 FIxups are you talking about the Translations? So they were advised to disable H323 translations and they have said that they have done that but it still happens. Any other thoughts?

what is doing DHCP at the remote site? What's it's lifetime set to?

I will check with them about DHCP. You are suggesting lease time might be too low?

It's called H.323 transformations on the sonicwall and it needs to be turned off on all sonicwalls (both ends) If fact I disable everything on that VoIP tab on those routers. SIP transformation, and every other checkbox on that VoIP tab.

i will check with them on the voip tab. i know they disabled H323 transfomations.
