Tried to expand an IPO 3.2(55) by replacing a 16 port DSM (ver 5.2) with a new 30 port DSM (ver 9.0). Tested the DSM30 on an IPO 7.0 first then did the swap at the customer site. Existing phones (5410D & 5420D) would not work and new 5420D phones would not work. Just got a 'please wait...' display on the phones. We are being told that our mistake was testing the DSM30 on the IPO 7.0 before trying to install it on IPO 3.2 (55), because the firmware automatically was updated making it incompatible. True or False? Is there any way out?

yes you will need to upgrade all units to the same software versions

You need to run an upgrade (or downgrade in this case) on the DS30. In Manager, File->Advanced->Upgrade. Select your new DS30 module and bring it down to match the control unit.

Thank you guys for your responses. I'm running the latest, greatest IPO Mgr software on my laptop (8.0) and the DS30 is 9.0.5 and the IP Office itself is 3.2.55. Does this process require access to bin files? Does it get those from the Manager software? Should I be getting those from the Manager files onsite, not my laptop? The big question...is there a document that lays this procedure out? We're new at this and need help. Thanks.

I wouldnt try this without the appropriate training or experience. You really need the help of a good business partner or if this is something you plan to do often, get some instruction under your belt!
