Avaya IP Office 9.0.200 can't get VM to email to work on Embedded Messaging

I have a customer that has Avaya IP Office on 9.0.200 with embedded messaging.
They want to utilize the VM to email feature, so we did the programming but can't get it to work at all. They have Google GMail addresses that have their firstname@companyname.com.
So we tried all the google settings that we know of and it still will not work. Here is a link to a document about the Google SMTP settings. We tried them all, even the SMTP relay settings.
Does anybody have experience with this? Anything I can try that I may haven't already?

Check to be sure your ISP is not blocking the SMTP ports. Try telnetting top the SMTP hosts using the ports listed.
 
You can run Sys Mon and make sure to open Trace Options, Services tab and tick SMTP. If it is an authentication issue, you should see it there.
