Avaya Ip office 8.1(69) Essential Version 1

I downloaded the Software and transferred it to the SD provided with the system. Basic mode came up on the system and worked. I went to advanced and requested upgrades per my equipment distributor. The system auto rebooted and came up with a error message on the 1408 Upgrade:file access error. I also received a Pop up screen with HTTP request failed:500 internal server error. The system manager was unable to find the IP office. I did a hard shutdown pulled the SD and reformatted it and reloaded the software. Started the system and it came up in the exact same state. Does anyone have a suggestion on what went wrong and more importantly how can I get the system running?

You need to reinstall the Manager that matches the rev on your IPO. Then reformat and rebuild your SD card. That should get your system working again. Then install the .69 version of Manager and then perform a system upgrade. Allow the IPO to do all the work.

file > advanced > upgrade

If you used all the default settings it will find the new rev. Otherwise you will have to use the change directory function.

Thank you for your response, I haven't tried reinstalling my manager. It is the latest version but worth a try.

you need to Format and re-create the SD card as already mentioned, BUT YOU MUST perform this task in Manager.

you can not simply transfer the files to the SD card and you can not format it simply within windows.

Hairless support monkey, thanks for your reply. Ok, I'm a little ignorant about this data stuff(been in the phone biz since 1978). Heres what I've done on installs before and followed same procedure on this new essential version. Format the SD card in my windows 7 computer, then go to ip office info and download the latest version which I purchased (still can't understand how it validates my ownership of legitimate software). I then initiate the exe file which installs the latest manager software on my computer , I copy the whole download to the SD card and stick it in the IP office 500V2,power up and I have a basic system. I've installed about six systems, starting rev 6.0 Until this rev level all seemed ok with this procedure. This time my distributor said "Why do you format the card?", so I did not. He said Transfer the files and then go to File,Advanced and upgrade. I got to up grade and there were ruffly six files offered, (I'M CLUELESS) so I check them all, the upgrade occurs, the system auto reboots and is toast. The error 500 message pops up and the phone displays "upgrade: file access error". So now what, can't get my distributor to answer the question,(another story). I let the system cook over night and the next day start this thread. I get impatient, can't access the system, no discovery. So I hard power down. Try again, still no access. Power down, re format the SD in my windows 7, Re copy the software from ip office info. Reinstall and try again. Got the exact same result with no upgrade attempt. Phone display says Upgrade file access error. Can't access the system, no discovery. I Take a break,about an hour passes. I come back the phone display is up in basic mode, I try discovery and I'm in. I go to system status and it says everything is good to go. Here's the question, What is the proper out of box , step by step procedure to start up a system. Also, How long should it take for a system to be ready to communicate with the installer after the initial power up. I feel like I may have rushed accessing the system and should have given the system a hour or two to get happy. Respectfully looking forward to pmcook, hairlesssupportmonkey, and others replys. In closing I hope to lick this Ip office as I have so many systems before!

Proper procedure out of the box is:

1 insert SD card
2 install modules
3 power up
4 wait for system to initialize - can take 10-15 minutes. The SD card is burned with system serial number so they are matched during this time. That is why you MUST format the card using Manager so the hidden files get copied.
5 connect with Manager, install licenses.
6 If necessary upgrade at this time using Manager

That's all there is to it. You never need to do what you are doing.

Your system right now has say 8.1.63 on it as an example. What you did was to put 8.1.69 files on the SD card and now the system is confused. So you need to install the 10.1.63 (or whatever version matches what is on the IPO) version of Manager and then use it to reformat your SD card and copy the files. Now the SD card matches the unit revision.

Now the system should run normally. Get it going, install your licenses then install the 10.1.69 rev on your PC and then do the upgrade from Manager.

Thanks again for your response,To be clear, you are saying; I purchase the system, install the SD card in it, and all work is done to the D inside the machine. Correct? I was told by my vendor that I was purchasing un-prepped, and that I needed to download the software from ip office info .com (only allowed with an SSO login). Is that how you do your systems? Thanks again for your time.

You are not buying from an authorized vendor is your problem right there. Yes correct, everything is done during initial bootup. All you have to do is install your licenses after you initialize the system. It's all on the SD card which came with the unit. You just need to be sure your version of Manager is the same rev or higher than what is on the SD card that came with the unit. Your vendor doesn't know squat about the IPO. If you have to go gray market you should find one that can at least provide you with proper advice and system files. You should at least sign up as an affiliate with an ABP and buy through them. That way you get good technical support and all the rest of the stuff you need to install these systems.

One more thing: you can buy the DVD set with the latest rev for a few bucks. They change often however. What I think happened here is that you had an SD card that had a higher rev on it than what you were able to download from IPOfficeinco.com. You can get older revs there but you can only download the latest from Avaya or from an authorized distributor.

Yes, indeed it is a great resource. But for some reason Avaya won't let them host the very latest software revs themselves.

I would not want to host that either as it is just taking a lot of space and bandwidth because if you host that and it works then nobody would go through the headache of fighting with support.Avaya.com and their ridiculous site

It is not that hard.
I login and type IP Office, select it and click on downloads and documents.
Select it and download it from PLDS.
When you are in PLDS you can search for anything

PmCook, Can you tell me where to source the DVD you mentioned? I really appreciate the info you have provided. My system is up and running basic mode (hopefully legally, how do you confirm?). I'm was instructed by my distributor to call for essential licence at this point and voicemail upgrade licence. Still afraid to upgrade as this is where the initial problem I described occurred. During the requested upgrade I was offered ruffly 6 places to check off, with no explaination of what they would do. Against my better judgement I checked them all. How do you know??? Thanks to all that responded.

First tell us what rev you have on the Basic right now. Then tell us what rev you have of Manager on your PC. You should not need to check off any of the boxes as the system will do that for you during its discovery phase of the upgrade. So I suspect you are pushing a lower rev onto a system with a higher rev already. Check the version numbers in the ugrade window. It will show found and available. Maybe send a link to a screenshot. You buy the DVD set from your distributor. Part number is 700505016 and be sure to tell them 8.1.69 which is the very latest.

You will always get an older version.
You better download it from the support site and burn it yourself.
