For a year I have been with our new IPO 500 Server Edition with 1 Primary Server and 1 Secondary with about 550 telephones.
I have to say that i'm fairly new to telephony.

I was wondering about the redundancy which in my opinion is not really redundant.

The way it works right now is, if the Primary server shuts down or reboot, which is in my case is (crashes by itslef) 6 to 10 times a year, all telephone reboot and will re-register to the Secondary server. Down time about 5 to 10 minutes.

Is it just me or it's kind of shitty for redundancy?
Initially when we had both servers installed I was under the impression that if there was some kind of server unavailability, the telephones would automatically register to the secondary server without down time or at least nothing more than 3 to 5 seconds.

The phones will register to an alternative server after three minutes by design. It is to prevent them from registering to another server even if you just restart the IPO service. If you use direct media existing calls will not drop.

Since the release of 9.1 phones will reregister to their primary call server after 10 idle minutes if setup in system settings.
