I have IP Office that has 2 remote sites using a 1616 phone and 318 netgear vpn router the phone drops and registers every 6 minutes can anybody help me?

This will be a timer in the router or the router blocking signalling after a period, either way it is the router(s)... always is in such scenarios. Not being a Netgear expert though I can't tell you what it is exactly :)

it is most likely the reregistration process that needs to happen between the phone and the IPO. Make sure that the VPN tunnel is kept alive as they sometimes are set to time out when they are not used.
Does that happen even when you are on the phone?

Yes it happens when you are on the phone and if it is idle.

My Netgear works quite well but it is far from budget as it is not the cheapest model that Netgear offers.
NETGEAR ProSafe VPN Firewall FVS336GV2 dual WAN is the big bonus on this so you have a failover.

Look at every setting in the Netgear and look for 360 secs/6 mins, then if you find one change it to 420 secs/7 mins and see if the trouble follows the new time :)

You are not alone with the Netgear and this/similar issue(s):

thread940-1670074

Common theme is the same router you have, there are more threads like that but I just posted a few :)

Check the VPN time outs, IKE phase one and phase two timers. I had a site that would drop the phone every time the phase two timer renewed, we bumped it out to keep it from happening during business hours.

That is a realy Netgear problem and what you did is not really a solution but it works.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I changed the SA lifetime on the netgear to 28000 and that did not help.

You need to stick with troubleshooting the Netgear though, it really is the cause of the issue...trust us :)

The 318 is really bad.
HSM once helped me with one and it has been replaced with a 336Gv2 and that one has been replaced with something else later.
Those Netgear router only give problems on and on.
Go for a Cisco router (or something similar) and be happy.
