Hi,

Is there a command that will bring back the model of the Avaya PBX you are using.
I know that the list con all will display all the hardware housed in you PBX but it has no information on the Switch itself. Also, could someone suggest a white paper or website that will explain what the exactly the cards/circuit pack are used, for example, DS1 cards, IPSI, Control LAN, media processor etc. I have a overall understanding of most of them, such as Digital and Analogue line cards but I’m looking for something a little more in-dept. I’ve tried the Avaya site and it only comes back with general references but nothing specific.
Thanks in advance.

cmcshane,

if you would post here the output of 'list conf soft', 'disp sys cust' 1st page and 'list conf all' commands i would be able to tell you which platform you're running. it may be a bit complicated.
as for hardware description, you can find it here.

Thanks, the link to the avaya documentation is exactly what I'm looking for.
Regarding the hardware. Definity G3 Version 13/Avaya 8720.

cmcshane,

you have answered your first question yourself. it's S8720 CM3. :)

Ah, I'm with you! So, S8720 is the Media gateway server and the Definity G3 is the PBX/Switch?
Thanks again.

cmcshane,

no, it's the same thing. pbx is not hardware, it's software. it was called definity software, now it's communication manager but it's the same thing. previously pbx processor was located in primary cabinet, now it is separate server running linux with communication manager on top of it and is called media server. what was cabinet now is called media gateway. same sh*t all around, just changed names. :)

with you 100% now dwalin. Thanks a million for that, clears things up no end!

Look forward to dealing with you in the future.

Nice job dwalin and good to see you.

Hi again dwalin, I’m back!

The Avaya document is very helpful and really does get down to the nuts and bolts, thanks. I was wondering if you could suggest a good telephony Architecture Diagram, preferably Avaya. Something that incorporates a Genesys solution would be even better.

Cheers!

cmcshane,

what do you mean by "telephony architecture diagram"?

I guess what I’m looking for is diagram showing s8700 Media’s servers and G650 media gateway in a typical call centre environment, how their connected and the how they interact with other call centres applications. What type of circuits, packet or circuit switched, that connect all the hardware together, from Voice provider POP to the PBX to Agent.
Hope I’m making sense.

cmcshane,

wow, that's a tough question. you see, i've designed and implemented many call centers of various sizes but never encountered any typical. :) they're all different in one way or another. and it is not necessary to have s8700 with g650 media gateways, depending on call center size it may be something smaller, like s8300/g700 or even s8300/g350. or s8400. or s8500. whatever. it all depends on customer needs, not on any "typical" scheme. and genesys is completely another matter altogether... if you're in process of choosing a solution for your call center, better not go with genesys. my impression is it not worth its money.

This may be of some help to you. Jay has a lot of different config's listed here and how they interact.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be s8720, maybe just an example. But I’m on it now. The information you guys provided was very helpful, thanks.

You don’t rate Genesye!?!

cmcshane,

if you will describe your task in more detail, i might be able to advise you on what to choose.
and no, i don't rate genesys. it has its advantages but in my opinion avaya products are way better. the idea of having "pure cti" call center makes me laugh.
