I have an Avaya IP Office 500V2 with 2 expansion modules, 1x DS16, 1x DS30

The DS30 started blinking Red and Green and no ports are lit. Rebooted multiple times, no go. I could not find any documentation for alternating Red and Green so I jumped to the conclusion that it had died - it's old, it happens.

Ordered 2 new units (figured if one died, the other might be on it's way out too,) so the DS16 and DS30 are discontinued so I ordered DS16B and DS30B (I am running all 5410s and 5420s.)

Everything is fine, plug in the DS30B, let it boot up, plug in the expansion cable, reboot the controller, watch it deploy the config - then - SAME THING. Red/Green LED.

Controller is running 8.0 (51), and Software is 10.0 (42)

Anyone run in to this before?

IP Office Technical Tip

Tip Number: 261 <Prev Next>

3rd February 2014, Original PDF Version

IP500 Digital Station Modules (DS16B / DS30B)

This Technical Tip is to inform customers about support for the IP Office Digital Station Modules (DS16B / DS30B) with IP Office Release 8.1 software.

Currently, the new DS16B (700501585) and DS30B (700501586) expansion modules are not recognized by IP Office systems running release 8.1 software.

A Critical Patch (CP) addressing this issue will be issued on or before week commencing February 17th and will be made available from the Avaya Support web site. The CP will be incorporated into 8.1 Service Pack 9 available in May 2014.

IP Office systems running Release 9.0 software are not affected by this issue.

Further information can be found in Product Support Notice (PSN) 004135u.

OK it didn't let me rest and I was going through about 50 documents from Avaya and as usual there is no clear answer.

Thanks Avaya, again

The 9.0 Matrix states that R8.0 is the first release that supports this hardware but I also found a statement in an 8.0 EOS notice that says
another dumba$$ Avaya document said:
Migration Strategy
DS Modules (700501585 and 700501586) replacement materials are supported with IP Office system Release 8.1 and higher. DS “B” modules will require Release 9.0 or higher for heritage Nortel phone support. ATM V2 trunk card (700503164), Combination Card ATM V2 ( 700504556), VCM32 V2 (700504031) and VCM 64 V2 (700504032) are supported with Release 7.0(39) and higher. Customers on older releases will need to upgrade to currently supported releases and service packs.

so it seems that the DS30B's are supported as of R9.0

Anybody have any better info please let me know because this is driving me nuts. Anybody having them work on lower releases tell us.

I have had the same issue and finally had to upgrade to 9.0 to get them up and running.
Point is that you need to go in manager to the system > module and right click it to set working mode for the module, and you can only do that with R9 manager/software, it just didn't work on R8.1.

I can confirm after a good nights rest that I tried to do it with R8.1 Manager in an offline configuration and there is no option for even choosing that hardware in the list of expansions.

So R9.0 is is EricMcS

you need an upgrade license and an essential license if you don't have one already on your 8.0 system
