Hello,
We have just bought an Avaya DS30A to connect BT Nortel T7316 phones onto an Avaya IP Office 500. I was hoping this would just be like a DS30 and allow phones to be connected through structured cabling using RJ45 cables. Unfortunately the DS30A has come with 2 RJ21 connectors for the 30 digital extensions. Does anyone know how I can convert these into 30 RJ45 connections to allow phones to be patched in?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Buy an amphenol cable (female connection) and a patch panel, then punch the pairs down onto the blue pins (4+5) then you can patch away :)

Thank you for this, do you know the numbering would work?
I understand that amphenol connectors have 50 pairs allowing for 25 pairs. However the DS30A has two RJ21 connectors. One appears to control ports 1 - 16 and the other 17 - 30.
Hope that makes sense!
Thanks,

the ds30a is to enable the Am phenol cables from the existing Nortel BCM system to be swapped straight to the IPO

if you do not already have these connection cables in place then you will need to install new patch panels into the rack & wire out accordingly.

The support for Nortel phones is provided to give existing Nortel users a migration path for any new users I would recommend adding Avaya handsets, Avaya have a history of dropping support for handset after a time especially if they do not use the DS protocol
(eg the much missed INDEX 20XX series Handsets)

Only mind that Nortel uses 32 ports and the IPO only uses 30 ports !!!!!!!!!!

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

or you could swap the DS30a for a DS30 & save the hassle

The first 15 pairs on the cable are the 15 ports on that connector, the rest are unused. So if the module had extns 201 - 230 on it 201 - 215 would be on the first cable, 216 - 230 would be on the second cable (again on the first 15 pairs) :)

Unfortunately the customer is moving office and the new office only has structured rj45 cabling throughout. We have also been told that with the T7316 phones we cannot use a DS30 is has to be a DS30A.

My mistake I miss-read the doc for the DS30 Module.

Thank you all for your help, I have just ordered a RJ21 Female Telco - 24w RJ45 Leaded Pane which should hopefully resolve the issues.
