is there a command that will display how many and what kind of lines terminate in the pbx? I'm new to the voice world and I have an avaya definity g3 that I am trying to understand.

'list trunk-group' will be a place to start. That will show you all of the trunks (outside lines) connected to the PBX.

try list station or display station lis does all disp does one at a time
that is second start

Try "list configuration all" will show all assigned boards and ports that are programmed.

If you are new to voice and Avaya especially, I would start looking up information/admin guides on Communication Manager. Being that it is a G3 you will have an older software load, so certain 'newer' features may not be in your system but most of the screens will correspond to the manual.

Use the Display command instead of the change command until you are more comfortable with the system. Gives you better control - no accidentally saving a form with the wrong settings. Don't type reset system 4 during production.

1. Do a list trunk-groups as suggested above. Then go and map out all the lines coming in so you have a grasp physically where they are, and on top of that you can start figuring out who the providers are and if needed, Circuit ID numbers.

2. Now contact the providers of the circuits and lines you have. They should be able to give you a list of all numbers terminating to that trunk.

thanks for all the suggestions. I did try list trunk-groups and it came back with 5 groups. Its the next step, mapping the lines that has me stumped. I don't see a relationship between the trunk groups and circuit id's or vendors. I also have toll free numbers and analog lines coming into the pbx. I have a good idea of my vendors, what should I be asking them?

If you run a command display trunk-group 'XX' (where XX is one of the numbers you see under "List trunk-groups") it will show you more information about that specific trunk-group.

Begining on page 5, it will show you what ports are associated with the group. From there you can tell what card those are on. it may say something like:

1: 01B1401 TN464 G 10
2: 01B1402 TN464 G 10
3: 01B1403 TN464 G 10
4: 01B1404 TN464 G 10
5: 01B1405 TN464 G 10
6: 01B1406 TN464 G 10
7: 01B1407 TN464 G 10
8: 01B1408 TN464 G 10
9: 01B1409 TN464 G 10
10: 01B1410 TN464 G 10
11: 01B1411 TN464 G 10
12: 01B1412 TN464 G 10
13: 01B1413 TN464 G 10
14: 01B1414 TN464 G 10
15: 01B1415 TN464 G 10

That shows you that this trunk comes from the card in slot 01B14.

Then you can phyiscallt trace the connection to the back of that card.

thanks for that, this really gives me something to go by.

Command: list config trunk
Command: list config ds1 (will show circuit names if programmed)
Command: list member trunk-group xx (do for each trunk-group)

A great teacher, does not provide answers, but methods to teach others "How and where to find the answers"
