I have a Avaya Definity (R4.0)and Cisco Call Manager in the same Computer room. (Don't ask...LOL) Is there any way i could set up four digit dialing between the two systems? What hardware would I need?

My manager is a Cisco nut and wants to start replacing all of our remote locations with Cisco VOIP. (Does NOT want to put G700's or any other Gateway...no matter what anyone says.) So it would be nice if the people could call each other internally between the two separate systems. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Replace avaya for cisco........

Just fire your manager, he is nuts

The best is a cisco network with avaya pabx ;<)

I had another question on this for you guys and gals...

Looking at my "display system-parameters special-applications"

I see that on page 4 (SA8507) "H245 Support With Other Vendors? n " So will I be able to set up Ip trunking without this feature activated?

Or do I need to have it activated? Anyone know the "ballpark" price?

IP Trunks should be free at the level of software you're at. Follow the instructions in that Cisco manual previously posted and all should be well.

Do you know how to do UDP?

No I am not familiar with that. I know how to access it (LOL) but not sure how to use it.

Also would I need to set up a new IP Network Region or just use the one I have now?

UDP-Uniform Dial Plan
controls a multi-site dial plan, allowing you to use four+ digit dialing across multiple switches. You will use a combination of UDP and AAR to accomplish the networking. I've done it on a G3si with a CCM and not done an additional IP Network Region. Do a search for a FAQ here on UDP and/or AAR to see the different screens and read the Cisco manual. It's pretty well done.

Ok, I have tried hacking away at this for a while...

I have the IP-trunks up and they show active/idle. So when I do a "list trace sta xxxx" from the Avaya phone I am at...I get this:

denial event 1166: Unassigned number D1=0xda D2=0xf01

From what it looks like on the trace it is adding a "#" on the end of the ext I dial. How can i get rid of that?

what digits are you sending out?
paste your UDP AAR and route patterns here

Is the Cisco configured to expect the number of digits you send?

Well...

Whoever set up the Cisco switch used the same 4 digit dial plan as here...ie 6xxx.

So, in the Dialplan Analysis I set up 26xxx as a 5 digit aar.
Then in the AAR analysis I have that 26xxx going to my IP-trunks route table. In that route table I am deleting 1 digit...

Is there a better way? This is obviously not working.

here is the "list trace":

13:07:30 tone-receiver 01B0107 cid 0x2f02
13:07:30 active station 6702 cid 0x2f02
13:07:34 dial 26404# route:AAR
13:07:34 term trunk-group 41 cid 0x2f02
13:07:34 dial 26404# route:AAR
13:07:34 route-pattern 43 preference 1 cid 0x2f02
13:07:34 seize trunk-group 41 member 3 cid 0x2f02
13:07:34 Calling Number & Name NO-CPNumber Minelli,M.670
13:07:34 denial event 1166: Unassigned number D1=0xda D2=0xf01
13:07:34 idle trunk-group 41 member 3 cid 0x2f02
13:07:35 idle station 6702 cid 0x2f02

you are sending him 5 digits

what is your AAR feature access code?

in you dial plan you should have a 4 digit extension range for 6xxx
in your uniform dial plan tell the switch to send the 6xxx range to AAR, using the route pattern that connects to the cisco

So to send 6404 to the Cisco

change uni
send 6404 to AAR, don't delete or insert any digits
change aar ana 6404 and send this to your route pattern call type aar
don't delete any digits in route pattern
this should get you onto the cisco

I don't think I can do that. I already have a 6404 here at the main office. I was trying to use a work around for the 6404 at the other site.

Thanks. I did create a new ext and set up everything as described. Works perfect! I can call the Call Manager and ring the Cisco phone.

But...

Still cannot call from Cisco to Avaya...

It has to be in the Route pattern right?

The route pattern has nothing to do with calling from the CCM to the Avaya switch, unless Cisco uses similar nomenclature.

If you put a trace on the trunk group between the two, do you see anything notable?

I'm sorry, yes I mean the Route pattern in the CCM.

And I didn't think you could do a trace on a trunk group...

Awesome! Learn something new every day!

I don't even see the Cisco Call manager hitting the trunk group. It has to be something in the Cisco CM. Either the Gateway or the route pattern. I have copied everything in the Avaya Doc's.
