Hello, first post here,

At work I inherited an Avaya ACS 7.0 system with Partner Messaging. We have a few offices where two employees share a line, and we have a cordless phone hooked into the auxiliary port on the handset, so they can take calls from their desk and page without having to get up. This worked fine until about 3 weeks ago; now when a cordless phone user ends a page, the entire intercom system screeches like a banshee. I've tried:

Replacing the phone
Replacing the cordless phone
attaching the cordless phone to the auxiliary output of other phones in different offices
moving the cordless base away from the phone it is attached to, and moving the handset as well
attaching directly to the line output at the module and testing
doing the above while removing lines in groups to see if it's another line causing the problem

I am about out of steam on this one.

P.S. I searched a fair bit, but couldn't find a post like this one; if it needs to be moved or is in the wrong place, please accept my deepest apologies!

You've done all of the things listed above and it still screeches?

Have you tried it with your test set or a "regular" analog phone (from the auxiliary port)?

Does the cordless phone have a "mute" button? If so, can you initiate a page, mute the phone, and then hang up? Does it screech?

I haven't yet; I got in to work a bit ago, so I'll give those a shot and see how they work. Thanks!

So I got a bit of spare time and tried out the mute trick; at first it seemed like it was at least going to lessen the screech, but on the second try it screamed like normal. I don't have any analog phones around here, but maybe I can find one in the office at the house to give it a shot. I'm wondering if a transformer somewhere is dying.

P.S. I'm not a phone guy at all; I was hired on to do computer work. It turns out that when my employers say "computers" they really mean anything that runs off of electricity, so if I stumble and swallow my entire foot please accept my apologies.
