Trying to setup an IP phone to allow employees to work remotely and I got this thing all setup and going except that when I try to login to my extension it says "Extension In Use" but when I press Continue to take over the extension it just keeps coming back. Doesn't matter if I've logged out of my phone or even unplugged it.

Any suggestions

Means that the matching IP endpoint extension isn't available in the IP Office.

How, exactly, are you logging in/out?

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Well when I initially set it up i gave it a generic user with the same extension, it'll log in and out of that one just fine. But if I go to the craft menu to log out then try to login to my desk extension is when I encounter the issue.

Is there a extension number with your user number available?

And why you setup a generic extension number plus your own extension number?

Yes I have a desk phone which I use all the time. I have an extension number and user assigned to that extension. We already have two users with these phones but someone else set them up so I can't figure out what I'm missing. I compare my extension and user accounts versus the ones that are currently working but can't for the life of me figure out what's different.

The idea is that we have some of these VPN/IP phones to loan to users to take home when they need to work from home.

Don't use the craft Login/Logout options - use the IP Office login/logout commands.

Meantime, if you do use the craft options, it will be several minutes after logging out before the IP Office allows a login again.

Is your extension configured as H.323?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Okay so turns out if I go to Features, Phone User, Login and try it that way then it will let me login although the top of the screen displays a Retrieval Failed message which I think has to do with personalized settings but regardless that seems to work. It's sorta trivial but any ideas on how to check how the "Retrieval Failed" occurred so I can pursue resolving/disabling that?

@peter - Yes it is by the way

set the bruri in te 46xx settings to the tftp server for the phone backups

And that brings up another good point lol i had to use IIS to serve the config files and firmware, I couldn't get MV IPTel 2.02 running on any Windows 7 machine (ran with zero issues on Win XP). Is there a newer version somewhere??!

Is there another TFTP server running on this machine ( IP Office manager? )

Yeah we have a "voicemail server" that runs it, does IP Office Manager have a TFTP server built in?

Mviptel needs the firewall off.

Hmmm yeah that's not helping either, is it possible to just disable it so it doesn't try fetching?

So to clarify happened was on Windows XP with the firewall disabled I can do a port scan of the computer and it comes up with all the appropriate ports being recognized, if I do the same thing with a Windows 7 machine with the firewall disabled I come up with zero ports open. Pretty confident the version I got (2.0.2) just isn't Windows 7 compatible.

Try IP Office, you already have one.
