Hi guys,

I have recently taken over a company where there are around 15 5410 handsets which all work fine. I have just purchased two new 5410 handsets and they won't enable themselves on the phone system.

I have enabled the TFTP server and all the original phones updated but the new ones did not. The new phones say release 5 and the old release 2.

So my question is what is my next step? Upgrade the phone system or can I downgrade the phones somehow?

Any help will be much appreciated.

What version of the manager/ipoffice are you running?

check where your working directories are set on the computer/server that you run the manager software

should be

C: program files avaya ip office manager,

the correct bin files for the phones should be in there

what do the new phones display? do they say that they are waiting to be updated or do they just display please wait?

At the moment they just say "Please Wait" but I am not sure if it is because they won't install an earlier version of the firmware.

I am just trying to get hold of the version now...its a different company at the moment so no VPN!

George, it's really important you say which system release you are talking about...

Sorry guys, when I do help about its all goobledegook (rubbish in other words!). Is there any other way of telling what version it is?

Thanks and sorry for all the hassle.

That sounds like the Manager version you are using. Pull a config and select Control Unit. You will find the version of "Firmware" that is being requested here.

George, as Cargosky said that is the Manager release you are using, not the system one.
Anyway, that Manager does not contain, as TFTP, any R5 bin file for 5410/5420 phones, first step is upgrade your manager by downloading the latest one, it's 6.2(11).
After that, depending on the system release you have, we will be able to tell you.

OK, can I upgrade from the current version to 6.2(11) straight away or do I need to do an incremental update or anything first?

Thanks for all your help

You should be able going straight away, but before have a backup of all your CFG and BIN files ;-)
Then your phone upgrade process will dipend on the system release you are running.

Why use a different manager ?
You need to downgrade your phone
Open manager and plug in the phone
If that does not work then go to preferences and point that to c:/Program Files/Avaya/IP Office/Manager

If that does not work then come again and i provide you the bin file you need

tlpeter: Sorry I am a bit lost, is that something I need to do on the phone or somewhere else?

I see that there is some BOOTP activity but it only updates the current phones and will not downgrade the new phones.

The phones pulls the file by tftp
Manager can act as tftp server when it runs

In manager go to file -> preferences -> directories

There it should point to c:/ Program Files/Avaya/IP Office/Manager

If you go there you will see a lott off binfiles

Open the config with manager and look at "system" and "tftp server"

Set the ipaddress of the pc where manager is running on

Then plug in the phone

I had issues with new 5410 handsets as they were using the latest firmware. My IPO version was 3.2 and had to be upgraded to 4.1 to allow me to use these handsets.

I couldn't do downgrade of the firmware either as having the new 5410 phones plugged in caused my whole phone system to effectively turn off the unit they were plugged in to.

What version of IPO are you using?

Looks to me like I will need to upgrade the phone system!

regardless of the product hold notice, our service company still sold us these phones.

I would definately upgrade IPO though :)

a collegue wasnt able to downgrade some 5410s yesterday unless they were plugged into the controller. wouldnt downgrade through a module

just a thought

TomMills,

That has worked a treat, thanks very much for your help and to everyone in fact!

Regards,

George
