Hello everyone,
I have a remote user that called in (cell) reporting that his softphone is spontaneously dropping calls and it will quickly flash a message when sitting idle. So quickly, that it takes two, three, or more times to try to put together the message. It appears that our signaling server is sending the message.

I have had the same version of softphone installed on my laptop (Avaya 2050pc Version 4.04.132 (released 4/2014)) and my co-worker initially had an older version installed on his laptop & an even older version installed on his desktop. I did not experience the issue on my laptop, my co-worker saw the issue on his laptop but not on his desktop. Later in the day he installed the most recent version on his laptop. He still encountered the problem.

When I initially talked to the user I asked him if the problem occurred on a wired or wireless connection, which he stated that he saw it on both. He does have to connect to our network thru a VPN in order to use the phone. I use a Lenovo T540p Windows 8.1 pro, Core i5, 16G RAM... I am trying to get the user's laptop specs, but I remember it being a WIN 8.1, I think it is a Dell or HP (he bought at Best Buy). My co-worker has a Lenovo T530, WIN 7, 8G RAM. When my co-worker saw the issue on his laptop he was on our internal wireless network at the corporate location, then again at our DC wireless network (same domain, but two different networks), while I was wired as his desktop was. So far we have not found one commonality between the two. 1 machine on a personal wireless network connected to the work network thru a VPN tunnel & a personal wired connection, thru the same VPN tunnel. A 2nd machine connected thru 2 different work wireless networks, not connected to the VPN tunnel. A 3rd laptop with no problem connected via wired connection & a desktop connected via wired connection. We also have a remote user in CA (we are in OH) that has not complained of any problems. She too would connect via the VPN tunnel.

Contacted our authorized 3rd party Avaya support rep & they have not had any reported problems with the 2050pc. Has anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?

When I get the user's laptop specs, I will update this thread.

To update this post, the user has a HP Pavilion Laptop with a 2.16GHz Intel Pentium N3540 Processor (boost up to 2.66GHz), 4GB RM, WIN 8.1

Since WIN8.1 requires 2GBs to run, leaving 2GBs for the rest of the laptop. While the softphone most likely doesn't require a lot of RAM by itself, I am thinking that running the VPN connection (Cisco AnyConnect) and any other processes in the background could be depleting his resources. My thought now would be to upgrade RAM to 8GB (max for machine).

What's the message that's flashing on the phone? I don't believe the softphone was ever supported over a wireless connection.

He does not have the softphone installed on multiple machines, just the one & the TN is not programmed onto another phone. We have a whopping 10 softphones programmed and installed on machines. We do not know why he would be receiving the duplicate message.

Also, I installed a softphone onto a virtual WIN 7 machine, 4GBs RAM just this morning. Programmed a working TN on it. Opened as many different software windows, multiple tabs of Chrome & IE and could not replicate the problem the other 2 users saw.

yykroon - I used my softphone over a wireless connection at one of our sister locations on their network without issue this past Monday. FYI

...and you're 100% positive that the TN is not registered and active in the PBX? Did you stat the TN to see if it was IDLE and UNREG? If it say anything else then someone else used that TN to register their phone. If it truly shows IDLE and UNREG then open the softphone config and go to the hardware ID tab and either reset or auto create and launch the phone again.

FYI - Just because you have it working on a wireless connection, doesn't mean it a supported soln.

The phone was built on a clean TN. I am 100% positive that the TN is not in use by any other phone. My co-worker, who is experiencing the same issue on a different machine, built yet another softphone on completely different clean, unused TN, programmed the softphone on his laptop with the new TN and still experienced the issue.

when you go to stat the TN, what do you get? what do you get when you IDU the TN?

open the softphone config and go to the hardware ID tab and either reset or auto create and launch the phone again.
