Hi Avaya Experts!
I have an inussual problem with Avaya 16XX phones. I have an IPO500v2 V11 and 1608 and 1616 phones, most of them are working fine except for one or two phones, constantly they are rebooting and asking extension and password, the worst part is the extension owner, IT Director hahaha. Doesn't matter if I change the physical phone, model phone even switch port.

Any advice? Is there some problem in the phone firmware in this model specifically?

Thanks!

So is it rebooting when you enter the Ext and Password? Or just randomly rebooting throughout the day?

We had a similar problem to this and opened a case with Avaya.

It turns out that if the network drops and a 16xx phone recovers, it sometimes prompts for a password. This is because the media security is probably set to "Same as System (Preferred)". Avaya says that secure media is not supported on the 16xx handsets and this is why it fails. If you go to Extension settings and in the VoIP tab set media security to "Disabled" for the 16xx phones the problem goes away.

If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH'.
The paint wouldn't even have time to dry.”

Thanks a lot Ekster, unfortunately I have that option disabled, is there any option to solve this problem? Is this problem posted in Avaya portal?

I had this issue with 16xx phones on a customer when I had Phone Password set on the Extension, after removing that it worked fine.

janni78 - thank you, I'll try with that

teletechman - I did check that option, actually was one of the first things that I checked, thank you!

I had an issue where if the user password and the ext password were not the same it would do this.
