I had an Avaya 1608 constantly restarting and I found out that this phone and another phone were showing the same MAC.
I know there is a bug that downgrading this model goes to a specific MAC but this is a different case.
The other phone MAC is correct, and is the one that shows on the label.
The faulty phone managed to take the same MAC of the other phone.
This phone was working before with no issues, and I didn't do any upgrades on the system/phones.The IPO is an IP500 (V1) so upgrades couldn't even happen on the on this LAN.

I took the phone on a different network as I was thinking it was a switch going nuts, and it really shows that the MAC has changed and permanently.

Hello mic501.

When the MAC and/or SN on 1608 phones are different than the info in the label, it can be changed.

But the procedure must be done manually. There are two files, one is a special file that opens the phone and allows changing that information to match the one in the label. The other file, which is the default file in 1608 phones in the field, is the one that closes the phone and you can't modify that info.

I know that procedure is usually done at repair centers. The Avaya terminal is used to access the phone MAC and SN info by using the IP assigned either by DCHP o static and then by using some commands the MAC and SN are changed.

So you will need to send those phone to a repair center.

From the document:

Affected1600 Series IP Deskphones downgraded from 1.3.3 or 1.3.4.B to 1.3.2 resulting in the defaulted/duplicated MAC address condition cannot be recovered in the field and should be returned to Avaya under warranty, ideally within the first 90 days under the DOA process, for a free of charge replacement.

Workaround or alternative remediation:
None –once the phone is in this condition it cannot be recovered in the field.
